DRILLING 200+ HORIZONTAL WELLS IN A PREVIOUSLY OVERLOOKED RESERVOIR

Pushing the boundaries of what was possible, this project resulted in doubling the oil rate from field. The zone where this project was designed had double digit permeability and reservoir pressure. A sound geologic model based on adequate well control and good understanding of subsurface properties led to pilot horizontal well. With the general "rule of thumb" metric the team expected 3 times the rate of vertical well from the horizontal well. To the teams surprise, the first horizontal well has an IP rate of more than 10 times of vertical well. What ensured was a major drilling campaign with more than 200 horizontal wells.
